As soon as the sun rises on the Sunshine Coast, the beaches are full of surfers, dog-walkers, joggers and young families out to catch the early morning light. Some salty air and a quick dip will wash away any regret for not having that lay-in, promise. If you’re after some waves you’ll find breaks all along the coast:

Alexandra Headlands
A popular spot for beginners and pros alike.

Mudjimba North Shore
Long expanse of beach with plenty of space and a couple of good breaks. Beautiful on a calm winter’s day.

First Bay, Coolum
Protected bay in Coolum, can have good waves when it’s messy elsewhere but strong currents at times around the rocks.

Little Cove, Noosa
Gentle rolling waves great for beginners and longboarders.

Point Cartwright
A sometimes powerful right-hander, best for more experienced surfers.

Moffats Beach, Caloundra
Fairly consistent waves, good for longboarders.

Kings Beach, Caloundra
Easy paddle out, good for beginners
